Alleged Camorra Scion Arrested for Shooting at Funeral Crowd: A Feud between Criminal Groups in Acerra

«It would have been better for me to shoot that scoundrel in the head… he just has to be grateful that there was a dead man in the middle of the road». Word of Vincenzo D’Angelo, 23 year old alleged scion of a clan from Acerra, while he is about to be arrested for a more unique than rare affair, even in an area accustomed to dealing with murdered people and various pulp episodes. It was last September 27th, when D’Angelo would have gone into action, weapon in hand, firing eleven times into the crowd. Do you shoot in bursts? A bunch of Camorra? More specifically, D’Angelo allegedly fired at a crowd of people gathered to attend the funeral of a boy. Laid out during the funeral, ambushed in the midst of the emotion of the loss of a young life. We are in Acerra, near the San Giuseppe church, in via Madonnelle. All around the parent who has lost a child, a few meters away you can see the silhouette of two subjects riding a scooter.

INSIGHTS

They have a hat with a visor, baseball style, the one sitting in the back has no hesitation in firing: eleven shots and everyone fleeing. They escape into the church, trying to dodge the shots. Basic, elementary dynamics, of those that take place in dozens of points of the metropolitan area, between Ponticelli and Pianura, passing through the Spanish Quarter and Mergellina, not to mention hot areas such as Acerra and Caivano.
Investigation conducted by the prosecutors of Nola, who nailed – at least for the moment – one of the two gunmen, while the documents end up at the DDA of Naples, under scrutiny by the anti-Camorra prosecutor Giuseppe Visone. The reconstruction of the accusation is clear: it was not a demonstrative and extemporaneous act, but of a Camorra ambushwhich is part of the feud between two criminal groups competing for the Acerra area.

But let’s stick to the work carried out so far by the investigators. According to an information from the police, «the shots were probably headed towards Michele Castaldo and that the perpetrators of the shots had been recognized as Antonio ‘o Marcianisiello and Vincenzo, Mena’s brother”. Names and nicknames, the officers at the Acerra police station are at work, leading to the identification of Vincenzo D’Angelo as the alleged person responsible for the ambush. He is still a witness who reconstructs excited moments, always in relation to the crowd that is created outside the church of San Giuseppe: «I heard people shouting Michele, Michele run away, they want to shoot you and at the same time I saw Michele Castaldo being pushed by other people inside the church, where he took refuge together with other people.”

But there are not only summary reconstructions by frightened witnesses in the investigation documents. No, there’s more. According to the precautionary measure signed by the investigating judge Teresa Valentino, the images from the cameras are decisive, which reconstruct the passage of the two alleged Camorra members on the motorbike, until they reached the outside of the church. And that’s not all. According to the investigating judge, D’Angelo also attempted to pre-build a sort of alibi. He was under house arrest, complete with an electronic bracelet and to evade the checks following the escape, he allegedly faked a heart attack, going to the emergency room of the Villa dei Fiori clinic, after presumably having participated in the raid. An alleged staging that did not prevent the judge from placing handcuffs on D’Angelo’s wrists, in an investigation that now awaits the suspect’s response, but also the results of the hunt for his alleged accomplice.
