Berlin & Brandenburg Alba Berlin defeats newly promoted Rasta Vechta

Berlin (dpa/bb) – Alba Berlin has secured an important home win in the Basketball Bundesliga. On Sunday, the Berliners won in front of 6818 in the Max-Schmeling-Halle against the previously unbeaten newcomer Rasta Vechta with 98:80 (54:44). The capital city team now has three wins and one defeat. The best Berlin throwers were Matteo Spagnolo with 18 and Tim Schneider with 15 points.
Alba coach Israel Gonzalez gave Matt Thomas, who had been acting so consistently recently, a break. And without him, his team got off to a disastrous start. The Berliners rejected almost everything and were hardly present defensively. After seven minutes the hosts were already 6:23 behind.
But then the capital city team fought back and started catching up. Suddenly the effort and body language were right – especially on defense. At the beginning of the second quarter, Schneider put his team back in the lead (31:29) with a three-point throw. And they were able to continue to build on that until the break.
After the break, the Berliners were able to pull away further. Although they left a lot behind offensively, they were very good defensively, so Vechta hardly managed anything. Alba pulled ahead to 68:49 and saved the victory over time.
