Badminton player Ahn Se-young (21, Samsung Life Insurance), who impressed the public by winning a gold medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games with a torn knee tendon, revealed her injury status and future plans.

Ahn Se-young won the Fighting Spirit Award at the ‘Thank you, TEAM KOREA’ encouragement event for the Korean athletes at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games held at the Lotte Hotel in Jamsil, Seoul on the 30th.

On this day, he shared his current status for the first time since the Asian Games and showed a bright appearance, saying, “I only focused on rehabilitation after the injury,” and “I really had time to fully recharge my body.”

He added, “Now (the injured area) has improved a lot and I have gained strength,” adding, “I plan to play in international competitions starting with the Japan competition in mid-November.” He, who has now recovered to 50-60% of his best condition, said in an interview with SBS, “(My physical condition) is actually better than before.”

Seyoung Ahn is scheduled to participate in the ‘Kumamoto Masters’ that will be held in two weeks at the earliest.

Regarding winning the Danish Open and French Open, his nemesis Chen Yu-Pay, in succession while he was away, he said, “I try not to feel regretful because my body comes first.” He added, “Looking at the results, I think that my road to dealing with Chen Yu-Fei will be more difficult in the future. “I did that, so I’m trying to prepare with more time,” he said.

Ahn Se-young won two gold medals in the team event and women’s singles at the Asian Games badminton, which concluded earlier this month. In particular, he showed amazing fighting spirit in the singles final held on the last day of the competition, and after the match, he was diagnosed with a torn knee tendon and entered rehabilitation. In the meantime, he was bombarded with appearances on broadcasts and commercials, but he politely declined.

Se-young Ahn said, “Thankfully, many people showed interest and requests for interviews and advertisements came in,” adding, “But there are still many games left, and I have not yet achieved the dream I want to achieve.” “It’s a bit overwhelming to do both right now,” he confessed.

He said, “I’m sorry, but for now, I focused on improving my body,” and added, “I have a lot to show as a player, so I plan to focus only on the badminton I’m playing now.”

He shared his future goals, saying, “I won the Asian Games, but I don’t have an Olympic medal. I think I need to work harder toward the Olympics.”

When asked whether he would appear in advertisements or broadcasts if he won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, he smiled and said, “If many people want it and I have the time, I will do it,” but drew the line, “If only.”

The Paris Olympics are now about 9 months away. Seyoung Ahn said, “The Olympic race is still underway. “I have worked hard so far and have seen good results at the Asian Games,” he said, expressing hope, “If I really do my best every day, I will be able to finish well even at the Olympics.”

Meanwhile, through this event, the Korea Sports Council encouraged the athletes who ranked third overall at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games with 42 gold medals, 59 silver medals, and 89 bronze medals. 350 people attended the site, including Hangzhou Asian Games team executives and medalists, Sports Council President Lee Ki-heung, and athlete team leader Choi Yoon.
