460 Cadet Judokas Compete in the 27th International Gran Premio City of Vigo-Memorial Luis Soria Abia

The Navia pavilion became an immense tatami on which they competed 460 judokas of cadet age -born in the years 2006, 2007 and 2008- of the Spanish Super Cup of the category, 27th International Gran Premio City of Vigo-Memorial Luis Soria Abia. A capital event within Spanish grassroots judo that included the participation of the Spanish and Portuguese teams, in addition to the representative teams of 15 autonomous communities.

The tournament filled the court and the stands of the Vigo sports venue. Distributed in seis tatamis, the competitors sought victory in eight female and as many male weight categories. The Galician judokas added 10 medals, with only one gold, two silver and seven bronze. From them, three come from Vigo: specifically, the bronzes of Sara Mai Rivera (Galicia Sur, -40 kilos), Irene Vázquez (Famu de Frutos, -63 kilos) and Iker Fernández (Famu de Frutos, -55 kilos). The Galician gold was won by Pablo Rico (Judo Club Coruña, -55 kilos) and the silver by Inés Fernández (Judo Club Coruña, -48 kilos) and Iván Konoval (Judo Lugo, -90 kilos).

The competitors showed their best conditions in the first-level cadet competition.

Awards and training

The Gran Premio Cidade de Vigo obtained, for the fourteenth consecutive year, the highest score in the Cup ranking established by the Spanish Federation, reaching the Super Cup category. After yesterday’s awards ceremony, today (11:00- 13:00) the program of activities closes with a collective training session in the same Navia pavilion.
