On the afternoon of Tuesday, October 10, 2023, in the municipality of Andes, the forty-third Intercollegiate Games of Antioquia, departmental final of the youth category, were inaugurated, with a pilgrimage that began in a park in the San Pedro neighborhood, passed through the park central Andean and arrived at the Leonel Ramírez stadium, where the inauguration events took place, a protocol that was presided over by the governor of Antioquia, Aníbal Gaviria Correa.

The opening of the games, which in the youth division will have tournaments in 18 sports and in the pre-youth category in 10 disciplines, was quite colorful, happy and full of youth. Approximately 3,000 athletes from 95 municipalities in the nine subregions of the department attend the athletic contest.

Gaviria Correa, first president of the Antioquia, was accompanied in the main state by the manager of Indeportes Antioquia, Carlos Ignacio Uribe Tirado; the mayor of Andes, Carlos Alberto Osorio Calderón; the mayor of Jardín, Héctor Jaime Rendón Osorio, among other civil, sports and police authorities of the department, the Southwest and the municipality.

In his speech, the governor of Antioquia spoke about the Institutional Sports Games of Indeportes Antioquia (Schools, Intercollegiate, Peasant and Departmental). Of that departmental final that will begin at the end of November in Apartadó and Chigorodó, of Antioquia in the National Games in the Coffee Region and of the aspiration of Antioquia, in the subregion of Urabá, to host the National Games in 2027.

Gaviria Correa also referred to the large number of sports infrastructure works that have been undertaken in 124 municipalities of the department during the government of JOINED.

For his part, Carlos Ignacio Uribe Tirado, Manager of Indeportes Antioquia, spoke about the processes led by Indeportes and that the Intercollegiate Games are the seedbed for the Antioquia and Colombia teams. “How proud to know that the young people who compete today in this municipality will soon wear the Antioquia uniform and represent us around the country and the world.”

The mayor of Andes, Carlos Alberto Osorio Calderón, thanked the governor for his great interest in the municipality of Andes, which he supported from different government spheres. Likewise, he recognized Indeportes Antioquia, through the Institute’s manager, Carlos Ignacio Uribe Tirado, for the contributions that the Institute has given in the fields of sports, recreation, physical activity and sports constructions.

The speakers at the opening ceremony of the 43rd Intercollegiate Games of Antioquia, departmental final of the youth category, the governor of Antioquia, the manager of Indeportes and the mayor of Andes, invited the athletes to enjoy the games, to understand that Sports events like these lead to personal growth, building new relationships, better opportunities and reaching, among many other things, the departmental selections.

This Wednesday, October 11, in the morning, the competitions will begin. 16 sports will carry out activities in Andes and two (badminton and handball) will be played in Jardín.

The sports that will be on the billboard in the junior category (12 to 14 years old) are 10: underwater activities, badminton, handball, BMX, judo, karate do, weight lifting, wrestling, field tennis and triathlon.

In the youth division, 15 to 17 years old, the disciplines on the agenda are 18: underwater activities, chess, badminton, basketball, handball, BMX, boxing, indoor soccer, soccer, judo, karate do, weightlifting, wrestling, cheerleading , field tennis, table tennis, triathlon and volleyball.

The 43rd. Antioquia Intercollegiate Games, departmental final of the youth category, will run until Sunday, October 15.
