2022 Hangzhou Asian Para Games: A Moving Drama of Challenge and Overcoming

Kim Ok-geum (left), Jeong Jin-young Following the Hangzhou Asian Games, the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Para Games, which will be a ‘moving drama of challenge and overcoming’, will hold an opening ceremony at the Hangzhou Olympic Stadium in China on the 22nd and begin seven days of competition.

About 3,800 athletes from 45 countries will participate in this competition and compete in 22 sports.

Korea dispatched a team of 345 athletes (208 players and 137 officials) in 21 sports, excluding visual soccer, and set a goal of taking 4th place in the overall rankings by winning 39 gold, 45 silver, and 46 bronze medals.

National teams from Gwangju and Jeonnam are also contributing to the Korean team’s performance.

Gwangju, with a total of 20 participants in 9 sports (table tennis, shooting, archery, boccia, track and field, rowing, lawnball, fencing, and badminton), is expected to win 8 gold, 8 silver, and 6 bronze medals.

In table tennis, Gwangju City Hall’s Kim Young-gun, Kim Jeong-gil, Park Jin-cheol, and Seo Soo-yeon, and in shooting, Gwangju City Hall’s Park Seung-woo are aiming for the gold medal.

Boccia BC women’s individual individual Kang Seon-hee (Gwangju Disabled Boccia Federation), shooting Park Seung-woo, archery Kim Ok-geum and Jeong Jin-young (Gwangju City Hall), and table tennis Nam Nam Ki-won (Gwangju City Hall), Park Jin-cheol, Kim Jeong-gil, and Kim Seong-ok (Gwangju City Hall) are expected to win silver medals.

The Jeonnam squad is expected to harvest 5 gold, 3 silver, and 10 bronze medals.

In badminton, Yoo Soo-young (Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled) and in lawn ball, Song Myeong-jun (Jeonnam Disabled Lawnball Federation) and Jeong Sang-cheol are competing for the gold medal, while badminton doubles Jeong Gyeorul (Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled) and lawn ball Hwang Dong-gi (Jeonnam Disabled Lawnball Federation) are in the hunt for silver medals.
