Xanti Uterga shone at the Ezkurra fronton in Doneztebe, which was packed on Friday with almost 500 spectators. The Navarrese striker and Agirrezabala defeated Jabalera and Barricart 35 to 23 on the penultimate day of the group stage of the XVIII Foral Community of Navarra Tournament – GP Magna. A match that cleared up the mystery of who would qualify for the semi-finals. With the victory, Uterga-Agirrezabala sealed their pass and also automatically that of Zeberio II-Saldias since Jabalera-Barricart were eliminated.
Tribute
The Doneztebe festival served to honor local athletes who have had an outstanding career this year: Ibai Meoki, recently retired handball player; Saioa San Miguel, a 17-year-old athlete who has broken the absolute Navarrese records for 500 and 800 meters; Andrea Mindegia, Navarrese adapted judo champion; Koldo Legarra, player of the The Moment team that has won the Baztan-Malerreka de Guante-Laxoa championship; and Javier Mariezcurrena, a veteran driver who has won the Baja Aragón race in the truck category. They all received a local scarf and bottles of wine as a gift from the town hall.
Furthermore, the first match was played by four Erreka KE comebackers in which Belarra-Imanol beat Mikelarena-Maylin II 30-23. Next, a duel was played with climbers from the E·Remonte Iruña team, of which three were Doneztebarras Matxin III-Leatxe against Otxandorena-Mitxeo, with the latter pair winning by 25-30. On Sunday, October 1, at 6:00 p.m., Villava will host the tenth and final group day in which Uterga-Agirrezabala will face Matxin III-Otano.
