Why Andreas Rettig is becoming more and more combative

In the southeast corner of the old Freiburg Dreisamstadion there is a building made of glass and concrete called “Administration and Studio 2”. For years, however, within the club based here it had a much nicer name: “Rettig Tower”, named after Andreas Rettig, the man who had just been introduced as the new managing director of the German Football Association (DFB). Around the turn of the millennium, the stadium renovation pushed forward by the then Freiburg manager sparked protests among fans. Under coach Volker Finke, the sports club had become a rebellious location that was successful with unconventional approaches. Until today, by the way.

At that time, Rettig came along and wanted to open up new income potential by moving standing areas and had a building built with chic offices. The dark side of football had reached the Freiburg idyll.
