Victor Wembanyama Sets Sights on Gold Medal at Paris Olympics 2024

Victor Wembanyama has confirmed that he wants to take part in the Paris Olympics in 2024. The center’s goal is the gold medal.

“If I played well at the Olympics it would be a great story,” Wembanyama told French media. “I will be at the Olympics and there can only be one goal – the gold medal.”

Wembanyama had already flirted with taking part in the World Cup this year, but ultimately canceled after a long season to concentrate on his rookie season in the NBA. Without their mega-talent, the French were surprisingly eliminated in the preliminary round after defeats against Canada and Latvia.

“This World Cup was very disappointing,” said the 19-year-old. “But I don’t want to judge because I wasn’t there myself.” France coach Vincent Collet will also coach the team next year; he also coached Wembanyama at Metropolitans 92 last year.

Wembanyama was drafted first by the San Antonio Spurs and is considered one of the greatest talents of this millennium. The 2.24 meter giant generated hype before the draft that was last seen around LeBron James 20 years ago.
