The numbers, starting with his height, are all on his side and a few weeks after his debut in the basketball that matters he is already dreaming of the ring. Victor Wembanyama, first choice in the NBA Draft, is ready to make his debut with the San Antonio Spurs shirt (next October 25th in the home match against the Dallas Mavericks): for the Frenchman born in 2004 the spotlight has been on for some time now, as well as for The illustrious and cumbersome comparisons immediately began. But the young French champion is unfazed and speaks about his future with more certainties than doubts. “It’s certainly no secret that winning the ring is difficult, but I will be patient because I know it will happen” said the rookie in a long interview with L’Equipe, in which he also confirmed that he will be part of the Transalpine national team at the home Games in Paris 2024.

“Not winning in my first years in the league is not an obstacle to becoming a Hall of Famer or winning five titles down the road. I have a great fire inside me, I know where I’m going and I have no doubts about the future. As for basketball in the USA it is completely different, we are behind: in the NBA there are 15 coaches on the pitch, ten of them ready to dry your sweat. If I go to shoot at 7 in the morning without telling anyone, there are four coaches ready to help me with the rebounds.”

Wearing his national team jersey, he confirms that he wants to play in the Olympics: “For us there will be no other objective than gold – says the basketball player -. Of course I will be present at the Olympics.

I watched the World Cup and the result was very disappointing. However, I’m not worried. I believe this does not alter the opportunity to do something big in Paris next year.”
