Valentijn Driessen thinks that Peter Hyballa needs help

Valentijn Driessen has lashed out at the dismissed NAC Breda coach Peter Hyballa. The coach had to leave the First Division club prematurely for the second time last week, after which a lot of painful details about him came out. According to the journalist from The Telegraph he should seek help.

“It is sad for this man, he is simply ill and needs to be treated,” was Driessen’s harsh conclusion in the Kick Off podcast. Although colleague Mike Verweij wondered out loud whether there should still be attention for the German in the conversation, because previous criticism led to a lot of reaction in Breda and the surrounding area, Driessen does not listen to those words.

“That entire process is the same every time with him. We talk a lot about (in)safety in the workplace. You can hear that between all the lines that it was extremely unsafe for all players,” Driessen continued. “He must have qualities, but he goes over the edge every time. I assume that now there will be no more clubs that will appoint him. Especially now that he is associated with an unsafe situation. Then you can never allow such a person into your organization again. I think he needs help.”

Verweij mentions that Hyballa was successful last season by reaching the play-offs. “Its shelf life is not that long. Very sad, you wish him six or seven years of success,” Verweij added. “We shouted things here because he was shouting at our colleague Jeroen Kapteijns in the mixed zone. Then we had the whole of Breda and the surrounding area on our necks. But he’s a loose cannon. Almost all his previous clubs can speak to this. (…) You would like to say to the clubs: be careful, don’t take Hyballa in.”
