Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, No. 2 in the world ranking and destined to become No. 1 at the end of the tournament, qualified for the semifinals of the US Open on Wednesday by eliminating China’s Qinwen Zheng in straight sets, with a score of 6-1, 6 -4, in 73 minutes of play.
Winner of the Australian Open, and in her third consecutive semifinal at Flushing Meadows, the Belarusian will now face the Czech Marketa Vondrousova (n.9), surprise winner of the Wimbledon tournament, or the American Madison Keys (n.17), who was finalist of the home tournament in 2017. The other semifinal will have as protagonists the American Coco Gauff (n.6) and the Czech Karolina Muchova (n.10)
