The US Open 2023, the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, will be played in August and September. We have all the information about the broadcast live on TV and stream as well as the winners from previous years.
Four major Grand Slam tennis tournaments are held every year: the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon – and the US Open. The latter will take place this year between August 28th and September 10th, 2023. As in previous years, the venue is the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. So everything is as usual at the big tennis tournament in the USA? Not quite, at least not for German TV viewers. Because for the first time in 25 years the broadcast is not on the station Eurosport.
Do you want to know how you can still follow the Grand Slam tournament, who will be the defending champion and what the winners of previous years are called? Here you can find all the information about the broadcast of the US Open 2023 live on TV and stream as well as the winners of previous editions of the tournament.
Broadcast of the US Open 2023 on TV and stream: Can the tournament be seen on free TV?
Until now, the broadcast of the US Open was firmly in the hands of the TV station Eurosport. This meant that for all German viewers watching at home, large parts of the tournament could be seen free of charge, as it was Eurosport is a free TV channel. This year, however, that is changing: for the first time, the broadcast rights are held by the streaming provider Sportdeutschland.TV. The broadcaster has announced that it will broadcast all games live. You can receive the streaming offer on Smart TVs and mobile devices. Sportdeutschland.TV According to its own information, part of the tournament program will be made available for free and part will only be available to paying customers.

Defending champion at the US Open: who won last year?
Defending men’s champion is Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard won the final of the US Open against Norwegian Casper Ruud last year. Alcaraz is also considered one of the favorites for the US Open 2023 and is currently leading the men’s world rankings. That’s not the only place where Novak Djokovic is hot on his heels. If the Serb canceled his participation in the US Open last year, most likely due to a lack of a Covid vaccination, he should be aiming for the title again this year. Djokovic has already won the US Open three times and reached the final nine times. Alcaraz and Djokovic have already met in the final of another Grand Slam tournament this year: in Wimbledon, the Spaniard Alcaraz emerged as the winner of the duel.
Iga Swiatek is the defending champion among women. Last year, the player from Poland defeated Ons Jabeur from Tunisia in the final. And this year Swiatek competed again to retain her title. As the first in the world rankings, her chances weren’t too bad – but she had to admit defeat to Jelena Ostapenko in the round of 16. By the way, Emma Raducanu, who won the US Open 2021, is not on the list of participants this year. The 20-year-old had to take a break due to injuries and operations.
