Unbwogable Faith Kipyegon retains 1500m Diamond League Cup

Kenya’s multi-track world record holder Faith Kipyegon retained the Diamond League Cup in the 1500 meters on Saturday.

Kipiegona won her third straight Prefontaine Classic with a record time of three minutes, 50.72 seconds on Saturday in Haverfield, Oregon, USA.

Kipyegon, who won the 1500m at the Diamond in Florence on June 2 in 3:49.11, followed by world record 5000m and one-mile times of 14:05.20 in Paris and 4:07.64 in Monaco, beat Ethiopia’s Dereva Feltege to finish second place. Personal best 3:53.93.

It was a replica of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest as Kipyegona won her third world title in the 1500m as the Ethiopian took silver.

Great Britain’s Laura Muir finished third in the Prefontaine Classic with a season best of 3:55.16.

It was the sixth time Kipyegon won the 1,500 meters at the Prefontaine Classic.

This is the fourth Diamond League trophy for Kipyegon, a three-time world champion and double Olympic champion in the 1500m who holds world records in the 1500m, 5000m and one mile.

Kipiegona, who is also the 5000m champion, now turns her attention to the IAAF World Road Running Championships, which are scheduled to be held in Latvia from September 30 to October 1.

Kipyegon also won the Diamond League Cup in 2017, 2021 and 2022.
