The girls from TSV Abensberg won two gold medals and one silver medal at the FU17 national competition in front of their home crowd. For the first time, the traditional DJB autumn tournament for young women took place in the judo town of Abensberg.
Young athletes from all over Germany used this high-class screening competition to draw attention to themselves. After all, there are important international highlights coming up in the coming year. For this you have to get into position. Given the conditions, exciting fights at a high level were on offer in Abensberg: potential medal candidates for the upcoming German championships were on the horizon. Grace Storm won the first gold medal of the day for TSV Abensberg. “Once again, the 2022 athlete of the year left the strong competition behind,” reports coach Peter Dremow. At the beginning of the year, Grace Storm secured the German runner-up title in the U18 age group, up to 44 kilograms.

“The fact that she has now managed to assert herself nationwide up to 48 kilograms speaks for the consistency of performance of the European Championship starter,” said Dremow. Jolina Reinhold won the second gold of the day. “The high school student from Johannes-Nepomuk-Gymnasium in Rohr had a long way to go in the category up to 57 kilograms, which was very strong both in terms of quantity and quality.” Nevertheless, she won all of her fights early. In addition to the gold medal, Jolina Reinhold also won the technician prize, which was awarded by the judges for the technically strongest athlete of the tournament.
The judoka from TSV Abensberg’s “remarkable result” was rounded off by another finalist from the club’s ranks: Lisa Howard, who also became German runner-up a few months ago, took silver in the class up to 40 kilograms. In the decisive battle, Lisa Howard was in the lead for a long time, but had to admit defeat to her competitor from North Rhine-Westphalia.

Loreen Karnahl and Smaranda Bogdan, who both competed in the category up to 70 kilograms, were unable to prevail. “From a Bavarian perspective, the Abensberg girls still had three medals,” said Dremow. The next task awaits the young women at the weekend: “Then it’s time to confirm the great result at the international AT Cup in Leipzig.”
