Unofficial information shows that Regalado’s heart suddenly stopped, according to foreign media.
In the tournament, the Dominican Republic won three out of five matches and finished the competition in 14th place out of 32 teams.
“The entire FIBA team expresses its love and heartfelt condolences to the Dominican Republic national team for physiotherapist Bladimir Regalado, who tragically passed away on his way home from the World Cup,” said the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
“It is with sadness that we announce the death of our national team physiotherapist Bladimir Regalado after the 2023 FIBA World Cup in the Philippines. Our deepest condolences to your family,” the Dominican Republic Basketball Federation said. “Rest in peace, Bladimir!”
