Tour of Slovakia: second victory for Merlier

Patrick Lefévère’s team continues its raid on the Tour of Slovakia, where, after Tim Merlier’s new victory on Saturday, it has now won the first four stages, before the fifth and final which is to be run on Sunday.

After the successes of Rémi Cavagna in the opening and of Andrea Bagioli on Friday, the Belgian sprinter won for the second time of the week, after his victory on Thursday, in the streets of Nitra, ahead of the Dutchman Cees Bol (Astana) and the Italian Luca Colnaghi (Green Project – Bardiani).

The “Wolfpack” of Soudal – Quick Step can also hope to win the general classification on Sunday, since, despite some bonuses gleaned by his direct opponents, Rémi Cavagna is still ahead of the Swiss Stefan Küng (Groupama-FDJ) by 2’16” and the Dutchman Milan Vader (Jumbo-Visma) 2’20”.

The French rider widened this lead thanks to his solo raid on the first day which should allow him to manage the last stage, towards Puchov, which will present a few bumps but without real difficulty.
