There will be League F: the strike is called off after an ‘in extremis’ agreement between the parties for the salaries of the footballers

A consensus has been reached. After more than nine hours of negotiationon the fifth day of meetings, the unions, the League’s employers and the clubs have reached an agreement agreement to establish the minimum salary for female soccer players. After the umpteenth meeting between employers and unions, the fourth held in the Interconfederal Mediation and Arbitration Service (SIMA) and the second this week after the absence of football over the weekend, it finally ended with an agreement . They will be 21,000 euros whatever the players in the women’s First Division earn this season and this figure will be increased by 1,500 euros in the second year and 1,000 more in the third, in an agreement valid until 2025.

The meetings have been tense. Many hours of dialogue between the parties during the five days – three before the first day that was not played, plus this Tuesday and Wednesday -, some more friendly and others more bitter. There was only one issue on the table: the minimum salary that League F players should earn. The parties began the conversations completely opposed. The unions asked for €30,000 and the League stood at €16,000 and an increase to €19,000 in three years in the first meetings in May of this year.

The meetings continued to happen over time, without reaching any intermediate point until this September, when the soccer players announced the strike that paralyzed the competition for the first two days. At that moment, the SIMA (Interconfederal Mediation and Arbitration Service) intervened, which would act as an intermediary between the parties in order to reach an agreement.

Demands

It was the moment where the parties moved and put other proposals on the table. The League agreed to go from 18,000 to 25,000 euros in three seasons, while the unions did not accept less than 25,000 the first year and 30,000 the second. With this on the table, they decided to continue talking to try to bring their demands closer together. There came the second proposal, denied in the end and which culminated in the ratification of the strike. 20,000 euros a season from the League, and the 23,000 that the unions requested.

After the non-dispute of the opening day of the competition, the parties met again this Tuesday. The conclave, which began at 10:30 a.m. and ended after 10:00 p.m., had moments for everything. At noon it seemed that the agreement was not going to come. However, in mid-afternoon, SIMA presented a proposal that ended up pleasing the parties.

The first year, that is, the current season, the footballers will have a minimum salary of 21,000 euros, which can be increased to 23,000 euros depending on the growth of the competition’s commercial income. In the three-year agreement, it is stipulated that next season this amount will increase by 1,500 euros, up to 22,500, and may be increased up to 25,000 euros. The third year it will increase, reaching 23,500 euros, and may increase up to 28,000 euros.and establishing there a new basis to renegotiate the agreement for the future.

Fatigue

“Honestly, I’m a little tired of fighting every year. I almost have no words for the fatigue of finding myself in the same situation every year.”he commented Aitana Bonmatí hours before the agreement. “I hope that all the institutions that have to get their act together do it now, because we always end up hurt and we can’t dedicate ourselves to what we like the most, which is playing football. We wouldn’t have to be aware of the other things that surround us to have fair, better football and what we deserve, in short,” demanded the best footballer in Europe.

As EL PERIÓDICO DE CATALUÑA, from the Prensa Ibérica Group, has learned, the first to accept have been the clubs and the employers’ association of the League, probably because the unions have had to make a much more complex consultation, passing through the captains of each of the clubs so that they could consult in their locker rooms. Hence the agreement was delayed until Wednesday night, when all parties have given their agreement to the figures raised by the mediation. The agreement allows the ball to get rolling this weekend, in what was going to be the second day of competition, just before the national team break.

The first day that was suspended due to the strike, while, It will be held during the week of October 4.
