The Wolves coach reflects on the infamous Rudy Gobert and Kyle Anderson fight: A turning point for the team

Last season, the Timberwolves went through some tumultuous times. The fight between Rudy Gobert and Kyle Anderson is obviously one of the defining events for the franchise and the team coach has finally come back to this episode…

In 2022/2023, the season has not been easy for the Timberwolves. With the arrival of Rudy Gobert, the adjustments to be made on the tactical level were indeed monstrous. On top of that, the results didn’t satisfy the fans enough and the chemistry in the band was hard to come by. Finally, the team managed to qualify for the playoffs but was directly knocked out by champion Denver.

To tell the truth, the most significant event of the season did not really concern the sports performances of Anthony Edwards and his teammates. The famous fight between Rudy Gobert and Kyle Anderson indeed monopolized the attention of observers for several days, they who wondered how the workforce was going to be able to get up before the playoffs…

The Wolves coach finally reacts to Rudy Gobert’s punch!

We saw it with the Warriors and Jordan Poole, a fight in a locker room never bodes well. Seeing Rudy Gobert freak out like this was logically worrying even if things quickly settled down. While he had never talked about this episode too much, Minnesota coach Chris Finch recently agreed to answer questions from JJ Redick:

Frankly, I’m open to conflict because I think it’s necessary sometimes. In the group, we are brutally honest with each other. You can tell me stuff, I can tell you stuff, hoping that we can move forward fairly quickly. We talk about it at video sessions and we don’t beat around the bush even if obviously, we don’t endorse the story between Rudy and Kyle. What happened that day was simply the result of all the pressure.

It was the last game of the regular and we had to win it to secure the best possible position in the Play-In. They are two of our most competitive guys. Kyle asked Rudy to do something, Rudy felt like he was already doing it, the bird names flew and then he lost his patience. I tried not to overreact and in the end everything was quickly resolved. (…) Mike Conley was an incredible leader. His teammates wanted him not to be suspended.

In short, Chris Finch teaches us nothing additional compared to what we already knew. Having the point of view of the leader of the troops remains interesting, however, and it seems that keeping calm was his priority at the time of the events. Of course, he condemns Gobzilla’s gesture but never wanted to dramatize the situation too much so as not to blow up his locker room…

The confusion between Rudy Gobert and Kyle Anderson is now history, and that’s why Chris Finch finally allowed himself to speak. The Wolves coach tells how he experienced the situation and does not seem to have the slightest resentment towards his two men.
