The Villa de La Orotava U16 International Tournament Returns: A Highlight in European U16 Basketball

The basketball festival returns to Tenerife and, specifically, to La Orotava. This northern municipality will host from September 27 to October 1, the Villa de La Orotava U16 International Tournament, which in each edition features outstanding national and foreign cadet teams, and has become one of the best tournaments of the category in Europe. This meeting, which is in its twenty-fifth edition, will once again feature a luxury line-up with Stella Azzurra from Rome, Joventud Badalona, ​​CB Gran Canaria, and Cajasiete Canarias. Real Madrid, Orange Internacional Bassano from Italy, Next Hoops, a team made up of great players from all over Europe, and the host CB San Isidro. Thus, this sporting event is followed by thousands of people from different parts of the planet, who join those who gather in the Salesianos-San Isidro school pavilion and the Quiquirá Pavilion, as it brings together the best international U16 basketball players. .

This Thursday, September 21, the Noble Hall of the City Council hosted the presentation of this great sporting event led by the mayor, Francisco Linares; the director of Canarian Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Francisco Pérez; the councilor of Sports, Carlos Díaz; the director of the Salesian-San Isidro school, Ana Belén Martín Ponce; the president of the San Isidro Basketball Club, Sixto Trujillo; Rafael González, president of the Tenerife Basketball Federation, and also the tournament coordinator, Gregorio Hernández, who gave the main details of the tournament and revealed surprises on the calendar and activities parallel to the competition. Among other things, he noted that the San Isidro Basketball Club is taking advantage of the occasion, and will dress up, to present its chain of federated teams and schools in society on Wednesday, September 27 (6:30 p.m.) before the opening match to be played by the hosts and NextHoops.

During the press conference and official presentation of the event, a well-deserved tribute was paid, posthumously, to sports writer Antonio Expósito Mesa, who recently died and presenter of this event in more than 15 editions, as well as co-founder of the San Isidro Basketball Club, organizer of the tournament. He has been a distinguished figure in the world of sports and much more for the people of La Orotava, so he has left a very deep mark on everyone who knew him.
