Good news for the national basketball women: they will play in front of their own audience for an Olympic ticket early next year. The qualifying tournament will take place in Antwerp from 8 to 11 February.
Two teams have already qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics: host country France and world champion United States.
Early next year there are still 10 tickets at stake. Good news for the Belgian Cats: they can play in front of their own audience again.
One of the four qualifying tournaments is scheduled in Antwerp from 8 to 11 February.
In 2020, the Belgian Cats played the Olympic qualifying tournament in Ostend. There they qualified together with Canada.
In Tokyo, the Belgians reached the quarter-finals, where they narrowly lost to host country and later finalist Japan (86-85).
At the beginning of this summer, the national women won the European basketball title.

16 teams for 10 tickets
We will have to wait a little longer for the Belgians’ opponents. The draw for will take place in Hungary at the beginning of October.
At the European Championships in June, the Belgian Cats were able to secure a qualifying ticket, just like Spain, France, Hungary, Serbia and Germany.
At the Asian Championships, tickets went to China, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. Brazil received a ticket via Americup and Nigeria and Senegal via Afrobasket.
In November, two more tickets for the qualifying tournaments can be earned at an Olympic prequalifying tournament.
A total of 16 teams will play for 10 tickets.

“The Belgian Cats obviously absolutely want to go to the Olympic Games in Paris 2024,” says Jan Van Lantschoot, chairman of Basketball Belgium.
“The support of our fans and partners is really indispensable. To be able to complete such a qualifying tournament in your own country as European champion is very nice.”
“We count on our fans and the team to enforce a new qualification,” the chairman concludes.
