The Impact of Luis Rubiales’ Kissing Scandal on Spanish Football: Javier Tebas Speaks Out

Jakarta

Javier Tebas highlights Luis Rubiales’ kissing scandal with Jennifer Hermoso. The LaLiga boss claims this case has a terrible impact on Spanish football.

Rubiales resigned from his position as president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). He resigned after being involved in a scandal involving lip-service to one of the Spanish Women’s National Team players, Jennifer Hermoso.

Many parties previously demanded Rubiales’ resignation because he was considered to have committed sexual harassment. FIFA also imposed a ban on the 46 year old man from football activities for three months.

The Rubiales scandal was also commented on by the president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas. He considered that Rubiales had tarnished the celebration of the Spanish Women’s National Team’s victory in the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

Apart from that, Tebas considers Rubiales to have tarnished the image of Spanish football. He said the impact of this scandal was even greater than the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in the United States.

“I don’t want to talk because I want to hear the interview he has given for two hours. We have departed from the president of the federation being sanctioned or resigning,” said Tebas at the conference on Monday (9/11/2023), as reported by Brand.

“I’m waiting for his statement. I won’t comment on his management, you know,” he added.

“The reputational damage caused to Spanish football is extraordinary. This is the biggest digital media news in history. Bigger than 9/11,” he explained.

Javier Tebas’ comments coincide with the 22nd anniversary of September 11 – in which nearly 3,000 people were killed in terror attacks. This incident is the deadliest terrorist crime in history.
