Telde Judoka Michael Hernández Wins Bronze in Junior Spanish Championship

TELDEACTUALIDAD

Telde.- The judoka from Telde Michael Hernández, from Club Akari Telde y Las Nieves, won this Saturday the bronze medal in the Junior Spanish Championship that was held in Pinto (Madrid) where he attended as number two in Spain.

Hernández held a tournament to frame. After beating Galician Óscar Lama in the first round with an action with Tanio-Otoshithe judoka’s illusion of being champion was maintained in the quarterfinals with the champion of Castilla y León, Sergio Palacios, where he fought a very serious fight without giving him any options with a Yuko that gave him victory.

In the semifinal round against Jorge Gallego (Catalonia), Michael started the fight suffering. The rival was very active and led the contest with great intensity. The Gran Canarian was penalized for two shidos but he knew how to wait for his moment and in an action of arms he obtained yuko and later immobilization that led him to obtain the second.

Michael knew that the Catalan was going to cause two shidos more to disqualify him. He used a conservative tactic with the premise of returning each opponent’s attack. The judoka got a third yuko of Harai-Goshi and, with just a second left, he received his third shido that hurt him on the scoreboard.

“A medal in the junior category is very expensive and we were aware of it,” said Hernández after his defeat. His coach, Jorge Hernández, commented that his pupil had to prepare him “mentally and tactically” since he “was a known rival for us.”
