Sports Fever during Chuseok: Asian Games, Professional Baseball, and More Keep the Competition Alive

Sports do not rest even during the Chuseok golden holiday. A variety of events are held one after another, including the Hangzhou Asian Games, which are heating up, as well as professional baseball and European soccer.

Swimming, which has emerged as a new medal field at the Asian Games, is expected to deliver good results even during the holiday season. Kim Woo-min will run a golden race in the men’s 800m freestyle on the 28th and the 400m freestyle on the 29th.

Fencing, which has solidified its status as a popular sport along with swimming, is held in team competitions for each event. Between the 28th and 29th, saber and epee competitions will be held for men, and foil and saber competitions for women.

The League of Legends, in which Faker (Lee Sang-hyuk), the ‘Messi of e-Sports’, will play in the finals on the 29th, the day of Chuseok. If they win the semifinal against China the day before on the 28th, they will likely win the gold medal.

On October 1st, the men’s and women’s badminton team competition will be held featuring Ahn Se-young, the world number one in the women’s rankings. The badminton team will challenge to win medals in all events in Hangzhou. On the 2nd, the table tennis women’s doubles world number one team of Shin Yu-bin and Jeon Ji-hee will appear and show off a golden drive.

Son Heung-min (Tottenham), who is active in the Premier League, and Kim Min-jae (Bayern Munich), who is active in the Bundesliga, will go out in the early morning of the 1st. Professional baseball, where the last-minute battle for rankings is fierce ahead of the postseason, continues without a break throughout the holidays.
