Spanish Team Hopes to Exploit Fatigue of 24-Time Grand Slam Champion Novak Djokovic

Placed in the same group as Novak Djokovic’s Serbia alongside the Czech Republic and South Korea, the Spanish team, which lost sharply this Wednesday against the Czechs (3−0), hopes to find a tired Serbian player just days after clinching a 24th Grand Slam title at the US Open.

During his pre-tournament press conference, David Ferrer, Spanish captain and five-time defeater of Djokovic in his career (for 16 defeats), explained that he was going to provide the maximum number of tactical weapons to his players to try to to beat him.

“I want to explain to them the tactics to beat him, I will try to pass on to them the things that worked for me at the time, but it depends on a lot of other factors. For example, I talked to Bernabé (Zapata Miralles) about tactics before his match at the US Open and it didn’t help him much (laughs). It’s Novak Djokovic, 24 Grand Slam tournaments, it doesn’t just depend on you. Let’s hope he’s tired and, if we see a moment to hurt him, we’ll try. »
