Spain coach calls 15 ‘rebels’, but Hermoso stays at home – News

Jenni Hermoso still remains at the center of attention in Spanish football. After the frost of the last few days, you are working on a mediation between the Football Federation and the Iberian women’s national team. But the situation still remains very uncertain: the new coach of the “roja”, Montse Tomè, has released the list of players called up for the next Nations League matches: Friday against Sweden, the following Tuesday against Switzerland. But among them the striker at the center of the well-known story that led to the resignation of the federal president, Luis Rubiales, is missing. “We believe that this is the best way to protect her”, explained the coach, but this is not necessarily the case.

But apart from Hermoso’s absence, it is not yet clear whether the crisis has subsided or not: Tomè has decided to call up the majority of the world champions to the national team, 15 out of 23, including some of them, especially Mapi León and Patri Guijarro , considered the leaders of the rebellion of recent days, those who would have asked for a more radical change in the management of the Federation. It appears that they had demanded the heads of at least seven senior federal leaders.

A move, that of the coach, which has different interpretations: it immediately seemed to everyone to be a gesture of definitive pacification, an olive branch offered to the players to “contribute to change together”, as a note from the Federation suggests. But other observers remain skeptical and think that there is an ongoing tug of war between the new leaders of football and the position of the players. According to El Pais, Tomè would have issued this list without yet having the agreement with the world champions in his pocket and, therefore, without having the certainty that they will agree to return to the field. ‘El Confidencial’ claims that behind that list there would even be a real order, with which the Federation aims to break any resistance from the girls. In fact, in case of their refusal, they would risk serious sanctions.

The players against the Football Federation: ‘No to the call-up’

“The Spanish Football Federation is not able to force us to respond to the call-up to the national team. It goes against FIFA rules.” It is one of the central passages of a harsh statement signed by several world football champions a few hours after the presentation of the call-up list by the new “Rola” coach, Montsè Tomà. Their thesis is very simple: absolutely nothing has changed since they asked for radical changes from the federal leaders, so their decision to no longer play for the national team, taken a few days ago, remains firm. “We, as professional players, will study the possible legal consequences to which the RFEF exposes us”, after this refusal, even more so, we read in the note, that the call “was not carried out in a timely manner, pursuant to Article 3.2 of the of Annex I of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of FIFA Players, we therefore note that the RFEF is not in a position to force us to accept it.” At this point, it’s wall to wall, even if the front of the “rebels” doesn’t seem compact: the hard wing made up of Alexia Putellas, Lucía García, Teresa, Mariona, Patri Guijarro, Laia Codina, Irene Paredes, Mapi León, Aitana Bonmatí, Misa Rodríguez, Amaiur, María Pérez posted the note on social media. Something that Enith Salón, María Méndez, Rosa Márquez, Athenea del Castillo, Esther González, Inma Gabarro and above all Olga Carmona, the author of the decisive goal to win the World Cup, have not yet done.
