Seventy-Sixth Edition of Agostoni Cup: A Thrilling Day of Cycling in the Casato Area

Everything is now ready for the seventy-sixth edition of the Agostoni Cup which today 28 September will literally embrace our territory. For an entire day the Casato area will become the cradle of great cycling, attracting many passionate fans but above all athletes from all over the world. Every year the greatest cycling champions arrive for the traditional Giro delle Brianze which constitutes the first test of the Lombard triptych also composed of Coppa Bernocchi and three Valli Varesine which will be held on 2 and 3 October respectively. The Agostoni Cup starts and arrives in Lissone, but the Casatese area is the true cradle of a tough and legendary competition with an always uncertain outcome. The route has now become a trademark and includes climbs that are covered every day by many enthusiasts and professional athletes themselves. No news on the route which confirms the now traditional starting point at the Cleaf factory to arrive right in the center after 195.7 kilometres. After a 67 kilometer straight stretch the group will enter the legendary Lissolo circuit which will be covered 4 times creating a huge selection in the group. The 24 kilometers of the circuit include 3 climbs: the Sirtori climb (1500 m long with an average of 4.9% and peaks of 12%), Colle Brianza (3300 m long with an average of 6.2%) and the Lissolo (long 3650 m, average of 6% and peaks of 15%).The group from Lissone will cycle towards Carate, Briosco, Renate and then the entrance to the province of Lecco after about twenty kilometers from the start. The race will pass through Barzanò to tackle the Sirtori climb for the first time and then Lomagna, Casatenovo and the return to the province of Monza and Brianza. After 67 kilometers the Lissolo circuit will begin and will characterize a large part of the race crossing the Casatese area. The areas of Barzanò, Sirtori, Perego (where the green zone is located and therefore a favorite place for fans to collect water bottles), Colle Brianza, Santa Maria Hoè and Olgiate Molgora will be involved. In the final 25 straight kilometers the race will once again cross Lomagna and Casatenovo to head towards Lissone for the grand finale. Last year the Dutch Sjoerd Bax raised his arms to the sky and is ready to defend the title, ten days ago he won the Matteotti Trophy in Pescara and will lead the UAE Team Emirates. It is precisely the Emirati team that is the best equipped because in addition to the defending champion there will be the Swiss champion Marc Hirschi and the two very strong Italians Diego Ulissi and Davide Formolo. There are so many champions who have come to our territory to aspire to win the Bernocchi Cup, first of all the Italian champion Simone Velasco (Astana Qazaqstan team) who is ready to set the hearts of the fans on fire.

Among the Italian athletes, eyes are also on the fast paced long distance rider Andrea Vendrame (AG2R Citroen team), Nicola Conci Stefano Oldani (Alpecin Deceunick), the 2022 Italian champion Filippo Zana and Kevin Colleoni (Jayco Alula team), Lorenzo Fortunato and Vincenzo Albanese ( Eolo Kometa), in the case of a sprint finish the couple Simone Consonni and Davide Cimolai. The Italians will have to contend with the French climber Warren Barguil (Team Arkea Samsic), the pistard Benjamin Thomas (Team Cofidis), the long distance cyclist Pierre Latour (Totalenergie), the winner of the Vuelta 2018 Simon Yates (Team Jayco Alula) and two Spanish long distance cyclists of Team Movistar Ivan Garcia Cortina Carlos Verna. Among the starters there is also an athlete who literally runs at home, the twenty-one year old Giacomo Villa from Monticello Brianza, registered for the Biesse Carrera team, is ready to race his second Coppa Agostoni and will certainly have many fans to support him. The start is set for 11.25am at the Cleaf factory in Lissone in via Vittorio Bottego, while the opening of the signature podium is scheduled about an hour before, the opportunity for many enthusiasts to meet their favorites.
