At 26, Roman Safiullin has just reached a new stage in his career. The Russian will play his first final on the ATP circuit on Monday thanks to his clear victory against Lorenzo Musetti, who had looked much paler than the day before (6-3, 6-4). Dominated by the striking force of his opponent, author of several firsts at more than 220 km/h (nine aces), the Italian was unable to reach his first final of the season.
Ranked 55th in the world, Safiullin emerged last year at the start of the season and climbed into the Top 100 of the ATP rankings for the first time in his career. After a lackluster start to 2023 (he even fell back in the rankings), he remembered everyone at Wimbledon by reaching the quarter-finals, a first for him who had not still past the second round of a Grand Slam.
