Reggio ‘capital’ of youth basketball for a weekend. Thanks to a great initiative launched by Pallacanestro Reggiana – with the patronage of the Municipality, the Foundation for Sport and the Italian Basketball Federation – the first edition of the ‘PR Academy Cup’ will come to life on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, an international tournament dedicated to the Under 13 category which will see Pallacanestro Trieste, Bakery Piacenza, the Spanish side Fontajau Girona and the Hungarian team Mafc Budapest take to the field at the PalaBigi; as well as obviously the hosts Unahotels who for the occasion will participate with a selection made up of boys from the various clubs of the red and white Academy. However, the ‘PR Academy Cup’ will not be ‘just basketball’, but will offer participants an all-encompassing experience with multiple cultural implications within the historic centre. The kids who will participate in the event will in fact carry out a real ‘Kobe Tour’ on Saturday morning in which they will retrace the places where the Los Angeles Lakers star spent his childhood, reliving the memories dedicated to him, to then end with the visit to the Sala del Tricolore and the adjoining museum. A very important opportunity to further grow the entire basketball movement in our province and confirm the ‘City of the first Tricolore’ as one of the most important in Italy for what concerns basketball and the ‘collective memory’ dedicated to it. All matches will be played in a round-robin format at the PalaBigi (free entry for all), with this calendar: starting on Friday at 3pm with Pallacanestro Reggiana–Girona, continuing at 4.30pm with Piacenza–Budapest, then at 6pm Budapest – Girona, at 7.30pm Piacenza–Trieste. On Saturday it will always start at 3pm, but with Trieste-Girona, then from 4.30pm there will be Pallacanestro Reggiana-Piacenza, from 6pm Budapest-Trieste and finally, from 7.30pm, there will be Piacenza-Girona. The tournament will then end on Sunday morning: at 9am there will be Pallacanestro Reggiana-Budapest and at 10.15am Trieste-Pallacanestro Reggiana.
The official partners of the event are ‘Nuova AudioLine’, Iren, Parmareggio and Kida. A weekend of youth basketball that even the late Kobe would no doubt have been very proud of.
