Rafael Nadal’s ATP Ranking Drops to 239 Due to Injury, Will Miss Rest of the Year

He hasn’t played since then due to an injury – and that is now reflected in the ATP rankings. There the 37-year-old Spaniard fell to position 239. His neighbors are almost completely unknown in the tennis world: Aziz Dougaz from Tunisia and Kamil Majchrzak from Poland.

For the Spaniard, it is the worst ranking in over 21 years: as a 16-year-old, he was temporarily ranked 261st. In 2003 he made it into the top 200 and stayed there until recently.

But Nadal’s decline will continue: He is still in the recovery phase after hip surgery and will not play this year. As a result, he cannot defend the 200 points from last year’s ATP Finals. At the end of the year he will still have 45 ATP points and will find himself outside the top 600.

Rafael Nadal had long ago announced that he would end his career in 2024. His farewell tour is scheduled to begin at the Australian Open in January, as coach Toni Nadal told the radio station “El Desmarque”. His nephew wants to return to the court in Melbourne.

But even his uncle doubts that he will celebrate great success. “But it would be nice if Rafa could win a few more big matches.”
