Rafael Nadal Discusses Probable Return and Challenges for 2024

During a major interview given to the television channel Movistar, Rafael Nadal, absent since last January due to a psoas injury, addressed many topics. After having “tackled” Novak Djokovic regarding the quest for the GOAT title, the Spaniard wanted to clarify things about his probable return in 2024.

“I would like to play again, I have the illusion of playing again and being competitive. The illusion is not to come back and win Roland Garros or Australia, as people understand that, at this stage of my life, it’s very far away. I’m not saying impossible, because things in sport change very quickly, but I’m not deluded, I’m fully aware of the difficulties that present themselves to me. There are several: one is insurmountable, it is age, because when you are old, it is already complicated; the other is physical problems, which do not allow me to train 100% regularly. The combination of these two things makes it almost impossible to aspire to certain things. Does this take away my enthusiasm? No, because ultimately what I’m looking forward to is playing again, feeling competitive… And we’ll see where I’m at. I can’t tell you what goals I will set for myself: I am in the middle of the healing process and I don’t know how I will be.”
