PSV Salzburg Stays On Target for Final Four Despite Setbacks

After huge bad luck, the surprisingly strong newcomer remained on target in the penultimate double round.

After being promoted to the 1st Men’s Judo Bundesliga, PSV Salzburg is still on course towards the final tournament of the best four teams in Austria. While the PSV aces, who did not have any of their three legionnaires available, had to admit defeat to the favored hosts 2:5 in Wels on Saturday, they prevailed 4:3 in the derby against bottom team JU Pinzgau.

Andreas Tiefgraber and Philip Aust each celebrated two victories

“We got away with a black eye and are still on target towards the Final Four,” says chairman Ronny Tiefgraber. His son Andreas Tiefgraber ensured Salzburg’s highlight in the duel against Welser with a convincing win against Kimran Borchashvili. The Raurisers decided not to fight against Tiefgraber. Thomas Grössig from Pinzgau took on Philip Aust in the higher weight class, but he made it 2-2 for PSV after the two Rauris legionnaires had previously won their fights.

Tim Schwarzl decides a close fight

Julius Meinel (against Peter Reiter) and Tim Schwarzl secured the townspeople’s victory in a knife-edge duel against Gerald Grössig. “Tim was completely exhausted after his return from Japan, but fought for success,” says Ronny Tiefgraber, whose heavyweight Johannes Spilka lost in the final fight against Daniel Schager. PSV will now go into the final double round in October in fourth place. With another win this rank can probably be defended. He should succeed against JU Flachgau. “If we can deliver our performance again, then that’s possible. But we don’t want to praise the day before the evening,” says PSV chairman Tiefgraber.
