“I vaguely remember that day thirty-one years ago when it happened to me, it was an incredible day. The next day all the journalists in the world called me and invited me to the broadcasts, the goal was repeated everywhere even though there was no internet yet: so I imagine what can feel Provedel when they see each other again”. Former historic Juventus goalkeeper, Michelangelo Rampulla saw on TV the goal with which Ivan Provedel yesterday gave Lazio a draw in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid and relived the emotion of 31 years ago when, on 22 February 1992 , it was he who scored a goal that meant the draw for his Cremonese against Atalanta. He was the first Italian goalkeeper to score a goal from open play.
“I think Provedel scored a beautiful goal with a perfectly timed insertion as a pure striker. He wanted it badly because he stayed in the area on the second cross demonstrating that he believed in it”, added Rampulla, who is now Salernitana’s goalkeeper coach.
“I think it was an indescribable emotion to score a goal in the last minute under the curve and in a Champions League match against an important team like Atletico Madrid. After the whole match spent in goal trying to avoid conceding goals, I managed to doing it is something unique,” he added.
