SANTO DOMINGO.- Seeking to encourage sports practice in the country’s schools, the National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI) held three exhibitions this Wednesday of an equal number of disciplines at the Simón Bolívar primary school, in the sector of the same name, in this capital.

This was stated by the executive director of INEFI, Alberto Rodríguez Mella, insisting that the combination of “education and sports is the winning formula.”

Rodríguez Mella highlighted that the interest of President Luis Abinader Corona and the Minister of Education, Ángel Hernández, “is to promote sports and physical education in all educational establishments in the country.”

At the Simón Bolívar primary school, Rodríguez Mella, accompanied by the deputy director general of INEFI, Franklin Duval, delivered the renovated field, sports equipment and began the karate, badminton and adapted judo exhibitions.

The public exhibition of martial arts was led by Solainy Marte, physical education teacher at the Simón Bolívar school; The adapted judo was coordinated by Teresa González, and the badminton was headed by Rafael Lora and Nelson Ozuna.

Alberto Rodríguez Mella and Franklin Duval were accompanied by Yolanda Rossi and Bellanira Jiménez, director and administrator of the Simón Bolívar school, respectively; Gilberto Rodríguez, president of the neighborhood association, and Leandro García, president of the Association of Fathers, Mothers, Tutors and Friends of the School.

Also present were the judoka María García, in charge of the “Athletes with INEFI” program; tennis player Blanca Iris Alejo, immortal of Dominican sports, and Danilo de la Cruz, district coach.
