The Risaraldense Olympic Wrestling League not only focuses on this year’s great objective, which is the National and Paranational Games of the Coffee Region, but also on continuing to strengthen its seedbeds with the processes that will be the next generational relays, this is how they carried out yesterday in the Combat Coliseum of the Olympic Village the Ciudad Pereira Interclub Tournament.

Promoting new talents

Jhon Jairo Echeverry, league coach, highlighted the importance of this contest. “We had an average of 70, 80 competitors in this children’s and cadet category, this is a very important event because it is consolidating what is the projection of Pereira in which they will represent the department and obviously at the national level. From here a very important seedbed will emerge where we aspire and we are working for it hand in hand with the municipality and this really is a very important event for the league because it is the basis of the municipality’s fight.”

An inherited feeling

Among the competitors present was the athlete Susana Sánchez, who has been dedicated to Olympic wrestling for three years and told how she came to this discipline. “My dad trained wrestling and he never encouraged me to train too, but one day I asked him, I told him what the sport you trained was like, explain it to me and he told me that it requires a lot of discipline and I told him that I wanted to try it.” and if I didn’t like it I wouldn’t come back and I went to train one day and I loved it and I stayed.”

Give Susana Sánchez’s opinion. Competitor

“Very good since they are training sessions for national championships, it is an interclub tournament and other municipalities come too, which helps us to train ourselves and improve our level for future competitions and challenges.”

Says Miguel Téllez. Competitor

“I think it is excellent and very interesting that they have called the different clubs from all over Risaralda, it has been a while since something like this happened for us to do a check-up and see future fighters as well. They recently started with the initiation group and the fact that they are integrating them more into the league seems very good to me.”
