The flight had to stop in Missouri, no team players were injured and they will later resume their return to Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers charter plane from Las Vegas made an emergency landing in Kansas City, Missouri, early Monday morning.

A Steelers spokesperson posted on social media that everyone on the plane is safe and that the team is “making the necessary plans to return to Pittsburgh later today.”

Several Pittsburgh media outlets reported that the plane landed at KCI Airport at 3:55 a.m. Central Time due to an oil pressure failure in one of the engines.

Fire trucks responded to inspect the Airbus A330-900, according to Pittsburgh CBS affiliate KDKA, which had its news team aboard the plane.

The Steelers were returning to Pittsburgh following their 23-18 victory Sunday night over the Las Vegas Raiders. Pittsburgh veteran defensive lineman Cameron Heyward joked on Platform

Heyward also joked that the Steelers might need Travis Kelce and pop superstar Taylor Swift, who attended Sunday’s game in Kansas City after an invitation from the Chiefs’ star tight end, to arrange the trip home.

“Damn emergency landing in Kansas City. I think it’s because of Minkah Fitzpatrick’s ‘roughing the passer penalty’, but we seriously landed in Kansas City,” Heyward wrote. “Hey, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, we might need a ride to Pittsburgh.”

A replacement plane is expected to arrive in Kansas City at 9:00 a.m. Central Time to pick up the 182 passengers and take them back to Pittsburgh, according to multiple reports.

The Steelers, who improved to 2-1 with their win Sunday night, had already been given Monday off by head coach Mike Tomlin. They visit the Houston Texans next Sunday.
