On the eve of the start of the A2 series championship, the third consecutive in the category, Pallacanestro Cantù has decided to sack coach Romeo Sacchetti, the expert coach who arrived in Brianza last year after his experience with the national team. The company announced this in the evening.
“Pallacanestro Cantù – we read on the club’s social profile, the site is currently under maintenance – announces that it has relieved Romeo Sacchetti of his role as head coach”.
And again: “The club would like to thank coach Sacchetti for the work done so far and wishes him the best of luck for the rest of his career.”
“The technical leadership of the team – the note concludes – has been definitively assigned to coach Devis Cagnardi, who will direct the first training session in the evening. The club has concurrently called a press conference for tomorrow morning at 11am”.
Last year Romeo Sacchetti led Cantù to the playoff semi-final, when in Game 5 and despite the reinforcement of David Logan, it was eliminated in Game 5 by Pistoia. Pistoia then moved up to LBA.
This year the team did not start in the best way, failing to qualify for the Final Four of the A2 Super Cup. In fact, the straw that broke the camel’s back in an evidently deteriorated relationship.
For Devis Cagnardi, born in 1976, this is a new experience as Head Coach after those already experienced in Reggio Emilia in 2018, in Agrigento in 2019 where he came second behind Turin, in Treviglio in 2020, and again in Agrigento, in 2022, where he reaches salvation four days early. Now the new challenge.
