FC Bayern’s starting position
With the point win in the top game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen (2:2) and the high-scoring victories against Manchester United (4:3) and VfL Bochum (7:0), Bayern are three home games behind in just nine days. Now the record champions will be traveling for the next week and a half. Before the top Bundesliga game at RB Leipzig (September 30th) and the Champions League duel at FC Copenhagen (October 3rd), the Munich team want to clear the first cup hurdle in Münster on Tuesday: “Our goal is to win. We want to go to Berlin. To do this, we have to win the games step by step, and that starts tomorrow,” said coach Thomas Tuchel in the press talk on Monday.
The Munich team have not failed in the first round of the cup for 28 years now. This series is a record and is to be extended by another chapter in Münster. “The cup competition has a very special fascination because they are knockout games,” continued Tuchel. This also increases the pressure on his team: “The starting position always offers the opportunity for the underdog to surpass itself. You always have to find a way to win. This is what we expect from ourselves. We have to prove it.”
