MotoGP: The limits of MotoGP

The MotoGP World Championship also has its limits. Aspiring to achieve victories, records and statistical milestones is motivating and legitimate, but may bump into the interests of other rivals, or with the regulation of this sport, which neither pilots, brands, engineers and teams can exceed, under penalty of sanctions administered by the panel of commissioners. Why has the current sanctioning level been reached?

In the first place, before there were not so many conflicts in the race, because the competition was very different, since there was no such close fight or so much equality between so many pilotsand in addition, wider differences were opened between the different battle positions.

Currently, MotoGP riders attack their rivals more aggressively, due to the fact that the opportunities to overtake are increasingly scarce due to the so-called slipstream effect and overheating of the front tire. That’s why the drivers always want to be in a good position from the start and, for the same reason, qualifying and the start have become so decisive.

In addition, before there used to be more ‘leniency’ with penalties because the controversial actions occurred towards the end of the race, or in the last few laps, understood as part of the show. It was not considered that you had annoyed your rival’s race, or not as much as now when everything happens practically from the start.

For this reason, the sanctions must be stricter than before, since unregulated actions or miscalculations in piloting can clearly harm the performance of any pilot. It is equality that forces incidents to occur much more often.

If now he were indulgent, the lack of control will be absolute, because each one would see his action as just, never that of his rival. Although their verdicts tend to move on a very fine and thin line, I believe that career management decision-making should always be based on solid logic, adequately clarifying what is right or wrong, starting from a well-defined program on the penalties that may apply. Because in the same way that the action of a pilot can harm others, a bad career direction decision can change the course of the race and that of the pilot. This is how ‘jurisprudence’ is established and commotions or misunderstandings are avoided.

The rules and restrictions do not have to be a handicap, on the contrary, they can serve as an incentive to perfect or refine your technique. Apart from those green lines that mark the limits of the track and entail sanctions, the true red lines of MotoGP las vein marking this ao Pecco Bagnaia and his Ducati, but his unfortunate accident in Catalonia breaks an overwhelming dynamic and reopens the World Championship, but not its limits…
