Jamahl Mosley, coach of the Orlando Magic, can’t wait for his young group to return to the field to show the fruits of everyone’s hard work over the summer.
During a podcast with Michael Scotto, Mosley launched into important comparisons for the two most promising athletes of the group, Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.
“As the game has changed a lot over the years, with players becoming more talented and having higher IQ, it is necessary to create combinations. For both of them the sky is the limit…I see Paolo as a combination of Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James and Jayson Tatum. His ability to pass, but also his ability to score in different areas, his power… Franz on the other hand is a mix between Khris Middleton, Kawhi Leonard and Kevin Durant (as far as footwork is concerned). There are many aspects that these guys try to learn from each of these champions. It’s not possible to label them just as this or that player, because they study the game and have grown up watching everything about these great athletes.”
Mosley doesn’t want to think in terms of victories to be achieved for next season.
“Our mindset is: How can we play our best basketball in April and May? We will continue to grow. Every team says they want to make the playoffs and win the title early in the season. Really every team says that. I want our team to not necessarily focus on wins and losses, but on improvements. Are we improving? What does it mean? Are we playing an excellent style of basketball in which you can see the continuity, the joy, the unity and the determination we have when we touch the parquet? This is how we will measure our success. If we do all these things, the victories will come by themselves. If we don’t make stupid mistakes, such as paying little attention to turnovers and rebounds, the victories will come by themselves.”
