Lothar Matthäus Analyzes Balance of Power Ahead of RB Leipzig vs Bayern Munich Bundesliga Summit

Lothar Matthäus sees the balance of power clearly distributed before the Bundesliga summit between RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich on Saturday (6.30 p.m./Sky). “Bayern are always favorites in the Bundesliga,” said the German football record player to the Munich Merkur/tz (Saturday edition). However, RB recently “showed twice – even in Munich – that they have learned something new.”

The Saxons won 3-1 against the German record champions in May and the Supercup duel 3-0 in August. “Leipzig has the feeling that we can hold our own against Bayern if we work well and have a great day,” said Matthäus. The Munich team could be “lucky” that Supercup three-packer Dani Olmo is “unfortunately injured”.

Matthäus doesn’t seem to be completely convinced by Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel yet. “I wasn’t the only one who was critical of the last two months of last season with the lucky championship. He had problems getting the team the way he wanted. That takes time,” he said.

This season too, the first games were “not so confident”. Matthäus recalled the Supercup, the top game against Bayer Leverkusen (2:2) or the wild start in the Champions League against Manchester United (4:3). He doesn’t see the recent duels with VfL Bochum (7:0) and Preußen Münster in the cup (4:0) as a benchmark. “I think Tuchel is happy at the moment, but he also knows that a lot more is possible with this team,” he said.
