It was the final of the women’s doubles over-55 division on the last day of the 2023 Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Senior Championship held at Jeonju Hwasan Gymnasium on the 17th.

The pair of So-young Jeong and Gil-soon Jeong defeated Tanja Eberl (Germany) and Elke Nisse Drus (Netherlands) 2-0 (21-6, 21-11) to become champions. They worked together to win the 2021 Spanish competition.

So-young Jeong won the women’s doubles gold medal with Hye-young Hwang at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. At that time, badminton became an official Olympic sport for the first time, and Soyoung Jeong was named the first women’s doubles Olympic gold medalist.

His partner is Jeong Gil-soon, a former national team member.
