Kenta Maeda overcame a sluggish start to earn his first win in just over a month Saturday after giving up two runs on five hits for 5-1/3 minutes in the Minnesota Twins’ 8-4 win over the New York Mets.
Maeda (4-7) let Brandon Nimmo go deep after just three pitches in the game and Daniel Vogelbach also scored a run in the first inning for the Mets, but the right-hander kept them away from the table afterwards at Target Field.
Donovan Solano scored a run in the second inning and Kyle Farmer scored another run in the third inning off David Peterson (3-8) to give the Twins the lead.
“The first run wasn’t very good, but I was able to adapt after that,” Maeda said. “It’s very nice to get a victory. It would have been better if I could have pitched until the end of the sixth inning.

Shintaro Fujinami worked 1-2/3 perfect relief innings to also get a victory. The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Boston Red Sox 13-12.
Fujinami (7-8) was sent to the mound with the Orioles leading 7-6, but with two on and one out in the fifth inning at Fenway Park. A double steal added to the pressure, but Fujinami struck out two players to get out of trouble.

The Orioles scored two runs in the first part of the sixth inning before Fujinami scored another zero in the second half of the game, getting Rafael Devers and Justin Turner to reach third base and striking out Triston Casas in three pitches with a 100 mph fastball.
