First stadium appearance for Julian Nagelsmann (36) since he was appointed national coach!
The former Bayern coach (July 2021 to March 2023) is watching the Bundesliga game between Eintracht Frankfurt and SC Freiburg (live on bild.de in the ticker).
Nagelsmann was only officially introduced as the new national coach by the DFB on Friday in Frankfurt. He succeeds Hansi Flick (58), who was fired on September 12th after the Japan debacle (1:4).
At the duel in Frankfurt’s Deutsche Bank Park, Nagelsmann looks at potential candidates for the German national team. On the Frankfurt side, Robin Koch (27/eight international matches/no longer taken into account since the 2021 European Championship) and Kevin Trapp (33/seven international matches) are possible.
Mario Götze (31/66 international caps, most recently in the DFB team in March 2023) would certainly have liked to see Nagelsmann – but the 2014 world champion is only sitting on the bench.

Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmöller (42) at DAZN about Götze’s place on the sidelines: “Mario played for a very long time. So I wouldn’t make too much of a big deal about him being out now. It’s a mix of impact from the game (against Aberdeen) and the freshness of the other players.”
Toppmöller could have been another reason for Nagelsmann to watch the game between Frankfurt and Freiburg. Toppmöller was an assistant coach under the new trainer of the German national team at Bayern (2021 to 2023) and in Leipzig (2020 to 2021).
On the Freiburg side, Matthias Ginter (29/51 international matches, not nominated in September despite good performances from Flick) is potentially interesting for the new national coach.
Nagelsmann appears in a Bundesliga stadium for the first time since taking office – the first chance for some DFB stars to impress the new national coach!
