Judo Success at Trofeo Italia: Olbia Athlete Wins Gold in National Competition

Olbia. The third national stage of the Trofeo Italia circuit took place at the geopalace on Saturday and Sunday, reserved exclusively for the novice male and female competitive classes from all regions of Italy: 315 athletes representing around a hundred clubs and 18 regions.

We read in a note from Kan Judo Olbia: “Competition held over two days of competitions, an important event for the new youth competitive talents. An important stage for the national ranking which sees the best Italian athletes in the class on the list, who have the possibility to qualify even earlier for the final phase of the Italian championship, thus skipping the official regional qualification. Jacopo Merone, athlete of kan judo Olbia, the historic Olbia gym of Maestro Angelo Calvisi with 5th dan, plays a high-level competition at the national competition with renowned athletes, winning all 4 matches by ippon (the judo knockout). Jacopo Merone wins the gold medal and climbs to the top step of the podium in his new weight category I 73 kg.

“The athlete of M° Angelo Calvisi and Carta Gavino, already Sardinian champion in 2022, also champion of the 2022 regional Grand Prix and close to that of 2023 in the 66 kg. becomes the leading actor in his first appearance on the national field in a fairly complicated and difficult. Excellent result which rewards the good work done by the Olbia club, its technical staff and its athletes, Jacopo’s work companions. Another 2 athletes from kan judo took part in the competition, Canu Dennis in the 60 kg promising athlete, but in the unfortunate circumstance, in the elimination phases he was blocked by finding himself ahead of his opponent due to a very dubious disqualification by the referee. Spano Francesco was also present, also weighing 60kg, he started the match well but then suffered a slight shoulder injury due to an incorrect technical entry by the opponent and must abandon the continuation. We are very happy with this result, overall a good national debut for this start of the sporting and competitive season, which resumed after the two-month summer break”.

“We reopened the gym in early September and we immediately committed to this upcoming event. There was little time available but the boys worked hard on the tatami and this is the result. A gold medal in this competition is very pleasing , because it opens up new competitive horizons for you and places you at the top of the national class category. Soon we will be back on stage with the regional championships and the qualifications for the finals in Arborea at the regional federal technical center and a trip to Corsica. Kan judo Olbia boasts an important youth sector, among the most numerous in Sardinia in terms of members always at the forefront of the organization of events, promotion and development of judo at 360 degrees, also with school-judo projects in elementary schools and much more, all this since 1985, the year the company was founded”.
