Jose Altuve Dominates with Three Home Runs in Astros’ Blowout Win against Rangers

Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve was dominant with his stick in a 14-1 win over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.

The 33-year-old veteran has homered in his first three plate appearances. He became only the fourth player in major league history to achieve the feat in the first three innings of a game. The other three are Manny Machado (2016), Mike Cameron (2002) and Carl Reynolds (1930).

Altuve had hit two long balls during the previous game. He has now stretched his arms 15 times in 2023. He finished his game of the day with three hits and three RBIs in five plate appearances.

Martin Maldonado (twice) and Yordan Alvarez also homered in the win, which allowed the Astros (79-61) to steal the top spot in the American West from the Seattle Mariners (77-61) . These two clubs and Rangers (76-62) are in the thick of the race for a place in the playoffs. The formation of Texas occupies the last place among the “Wild Card”, tied with the Blue Jays of Toronto. The Canadian team could get ahead of them if they beat the Oakland Athletics at the end of the evening.

On Wednesday, the Rangers and Astros will meet for the third and final game of their series. Houston had triumphed by the mark of 13 to 6 at the end of the first game.
