Jodoigne’s Annual Sporting Merit Ceremony Celebrates Athletes and Announces Future Sports Facility

The City of Jodoigne offered its traditional evening of sporting merits this Wednesday, highlighting as always different sports and athletes, both at the individual and collective level, classic and innovative, but also the people participating in the organization of sporting activities . “This is probably the last time that this ceremony is organized at the Côté Court roomindicated the mayor, Jean-Luc Meurice. In 2024, we will have the pleasure of welcoming you to a new place dedicated to sport, not only for the sporting merit ceremony, but also for the resumption of sports classes, after a long relocation which is coming to an end. In this regard, we would like to once again congratulate the managers of all the Jodoignois clubs who for more than 7 years had to find solutions, new grounds and training places, in sometimes difficult conditions, but which have never declined. arms and now see their tenacity rewarded!”

The awards ceremony began with the anniversary category, honoring the Royal Jodoigne Basket Club. The first basketball club in Jodoigne was born in 1953 under the name Jeunesse sportive jodoignoise. In 2003, for its 50th anniversary, the JBC became the Royal Jodoigne Basket Club. Twenty years later, it celebrated its 70th birthday with President Jean Levieux still at its head. The RJBC currently has around a hundred members and is impatiently awaiting the commissioning of the new sports hall.

In addition to the president, Alain Neyt was also honored. After playing in Brussels he joined the club at the opening of the 1976-1977 season in 4 Nationale. As a player, he featured in all of the team’s subsequent campaigns until 1983. At the end of the third season in National Division II, he retired to take on another challenge by starting a degree in commercial and financial sciences at ISC Saint-Louis in Brussels. After his playing career, Alain Neyt became a coach at RJBC, a position he still holds today for the senior team. Since 2015, he has served on the board of directors of the club’s non-profit organization. He is married to Jacqueline, secretary of the RJBC since 1995, and is the father of two grown sons active in the world of football.
