Celebrating Sports and Culture in Gruissan: A Collective Sailing Relay and Cultural Olympiad

In Gruissan, sailing at the heart of the collective relay

The coasts of Gruissan were the scene of the collective sailing relay, in a nod to the 50th anniversary of the seaside resort. It is on these coasts that the biggest board sports event is held each year: the Défi Wind. For this collective relay, 23 sailing players, from champion to volunteer, from club manager to coach or referee accompanied Camille Lecointre, double medalist from the Tokyo and Rio Games who will carry, with her teammate Jérémie Mion, the colors of France in 470 at the Paris 2024 Games. With its 1,100 sailing clubs and 270,000 members, this discipline is developing thanks to the voluntary and professional commitment of enthusiasts from all walks of life.

A territory proud of its athletes

In the land of rugby, Gérard Bertrand, 3rd row and captain of the Racing club Narbonnais then at the French stadium, was proudly able to represent the official sport of the region. Among the athletes who make and have marked the history of local sport, the former jujitsu champion, Estelle Gaspard, the three-time French champion, Noah Dudon, the French cross-country champion in adapted sport Lukas Rolandeu and the former athletic walking champion, Martine Navarro responded.

Torch Relay captain and Paralympic long jump runner-up Dimitri Pavadé was the penultimate Torch bearer and passed the Torch to Olivia Ruiz who lit the Cauldron at the celebration site.

To celebrate regional artists, a performance labeled Cultural Olympiad

At the end of the day, a sports Olympiad was organized in the fortress of Carcassonne in partnership with the Center of National Monuments. The Retouramont company accompanied the Flame as it crossed the monument. Like true tightrope walkers, the dancers fluttered on high cables, mixing their encouragement with that of the public present to welcome the last Bearers of the Flame.

Tomorrow, the Olympic Flame will travel to Haute-Garonne, a vast territory full of natural sites. The Flame will begin its journey with Revel, joining Villemur-sur-Tarn, Muret, Rieux-Volvestre. The day will continue in Colomiers, Bagnères-de-Luchon before going to Toulouse.
