Italian National Basketball Team Upsets Serbia in 2023 World Cup with Heroic Performance by Simone Fontecchio

The Italian basketball team has surprised Serbia on the first day of the second phase of the 2023 World Cup by winning by a tight score of 78 to 76 with a decisive Simone Fontecchio.

The Utah Jazz forward broke out with 30 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists through a remarkable 11 of 15 shooting from the field. Along with him, Marco Spissu also contributed double-digit scorers with 14 goals, and veteran Luigi Datome with 10.

This marks the first defeat for the Serbs in the championship after closing the first phase as leaders of Group B with wins against Puerto Rico, South Sudan and China. Both teams are 4-1 and could be beaten by the Dominican Republic (3-0) who will face Puerto Rico (2-1) starting at 2:00 p.m. in Spain.

The greatest exponent of Serbia has been Bogdan Bogdanovic with 18 points and 4 assists, although with a 4/16 shot; seconded by his teammates Ognjen Dobric and Nikola Molutinov with 15 and 14 goals respectively.
