Immerse Yourself in Medieval Times: Genappe’s Historical and Artisanal Medieval Camp

Since 2017, the City of Genappe and the Carrefour culturelle 38 have offered the Louis then opted for a new historical and medieval approach designed by the Fer de Lance company. A 15th century medieval camp welcomes artisans, recalls the ways of life, the combats… In 2021, this camp was moved from the communal plain to the “wooded environment of the Dyle park. In 2021, we attracted 5,000 people”, summarizes Vincent Girboux, alderman for Culture.

Tiflo, president of the Fer de Lance company, is leading the camp: “More than a hundred medievalists will introduce you to life in the Middle Ages this weekend. Many companies, including two French companies, are there. We will have around thirty educational stands, on calligraphy, poliorcetics (art of besieging strongholds), etc. There will also be a stand with rabbits.

The Louis “We will also have participatory activities such as ax throwing and an archery range.”

Several artisans will also be present: leather work, pottery, tableware, jewelry, clothing making and food products (beef, ham, Breton pancakes, etc.).

A torchlight march will be organized on Saturday evening with the Slayrish orchestra which will give a concert after a night artillery fire. The Genappe history circle and the Visitor’s Relay offer a historical walk. Fun fencing fights are hosted by the youth center. The Genappe library invites the public to its mystery cabin and will host a storytelling walk.

The medieval camp is open this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Entrance and parking are on the communal plain. Entrance: €5 (€7 for both days); free for people in costume and children under 12 years old.
